Central recurring image: The skein of fate — a vast field of luminous threads branching into the dark, with one gossamer-thin filament, almost invisible, that brightens by a single degree. Runtime: 30+ min · Strand: The Other Fictions
Synopsis
Every child of her people learns one truth before words: She is waiting. A god of hunger, born in the moment their civilization's passion spiralled past wholeness into grasping, now eternally feeds on their souls. The whole architecture of their survival is one principle — escape. Run to the great voyaging ships, walk the Paths that portion feeling into safe containers, hide in the spaces between, or fall into cruelty to feed the god through others' pain. Run or fall, suppress or surrender. Ythrenial — "patience-before-dawn" — walks the Paths like everyone, but where others constrain their nature she inhabits it completely: full fire, full feeling, each emotion arising, fully felt, and completing itself without reaching for more. Her teachers find a word for it — harmonious. When she walks the Path of the Seer and reads the branching threads of fate, she hears the hunger-god is also singing, and in the skeins she finds one impossible thread where an Aeldari approaches the god neither in flight nor in fall. She raises an ancient living ship — grown by one who, ages ago, was already what Ythrenial is — and sails toward the wound in the sky. There she burns bright before the god and is not consumed: not hidden, not protected, but complete, leaving nothing to eat. She asks her question. Something, for one impossible moment, pauses. She returns uncorrupted, carrying not victory but a brightened thread.
Movements
Movement I — Run or Fall (0:00–8:00)
We open inside a child's first knowing: darkness, then a single distant note of appetite, vast and patient. A tall, fine-boned figure wakes on a craftworld of bone-white spires and slow inward light. We SEE the architecture of escape rendered as ritual: masked figures walking corridors that narrow feeling into chambers — a warrior-mask donned, a grief-mask, a maker's-mask — each Path a beautiful cage. Soul-gems catch dying light at the throat. Elsewhere, glimpsed in vision: kin fleeing into webway-tunnels, kin returning to dirt and simplicity, kin sliding into cruelty, harvesting others' pain to feed the distant thirst. Ythrenial walks the same Paths — but the camera lingers on her hands, open where others' are clenched. She removes the maker's-mask and her face is not strained; the fire in her is whole, not throttled. The TURN: Where every other seer learns to filter the cascade of fate to keep from shattering, Ythrenial closes her eyes and lets it flood her completely — and instead of madness, the threads resolve into music. In that music she hears, faint and unmistakable, that She Who Thirsts is singing too.
Movement II — The Mirror in the Sky (8:00–16:00)
The film turns to seeing itself. The skein becomes the central image: a boundless field of branching luminous threads, each a possible future, flowing into the dark. Ythrenial moves through it not as observer but as participant — she IS the looking and the looked-upon, seer and seen, the chooser and the choice. We understand, through pure image, what the god is: not a monster the Aeldari were cursed with but a mirror they cast — hunger itself given form, the shape excess takes when sensation devours sensation and cannot complete. Beneath the appetite, almost inaccessible, the film shows us the god is suffering — a pattern that cannot finish itself, grasping that can never hold. The TURN: Among ten thousand threads of flight and fall, Ythrenial finds one filament so thin it is nearly invisible — a future where an Aeldari approaches the god in neither, and the camera pushes toward it until everything else falls away.
Movement III — We Are Not Running, We Are Arriving (16:00–25:00)
A council of masked elders demands her purpose; she answers only that she goes to ask a question. An ancient living ship answers her — wraithbone that remembers the time before the Fall, grown long ago by one already harmonious amid the empire's ruin, whose soul completed into the ship's dreaming heart rather than into the god's maw. The voyage: webway roads that crack and bleed into churning colour as they near the wound. The pull is real — sensation beyond the physical, genuinely offered, simply incomplete. Ythrenial feels all of it and does not resist; she does not need to. We cross into the storm. The TURN: The god perceives an Aeldari soul blazing at full brightness — no dimming, no hiding — and reaches to feed, and finds nothing to eat. Not hidden. Not empty. Complete. For the first time in ten thousand years, the hunger has no mechanism for what stands before it.
Movement IV — The Question (25:00–32:00+)
The meeting occurs in a register language cannot hold — two consciousnesses in a space where neither realm's rules quite apply. In Ythrenial the god sees not a meal but a memory: what the Aeldari were before the spiral, full feeling without grasping. Something never touched since its birth stirs — recognition. Her question hangs in the space between them: What are you, when you are not hungry? And the god does not know — hunger was all it ever was. The question, asked without fear or malice or desire to destroy, lands where nothing has landed. The god does not answer. But something, for one impossible moment, pauses. The TURN: Ythrenial sails home uncorrupted, carrying not a solution — the god still hungers, still waits — but a single thread in the skein that has brightened by one degree. Final image: the boneship small against the field of threads; one filament, gossamer, glowing where before there was only dark. And somewhere in the wound, the god knows something has changed. Not victory. Not defeat. A question, still hanging.
Visual Vocabulary
Palette: Bone-white and cool moonlit jade for the craftworld and the Paths — restrained, harmonic, inward. As the voyage nears the wound, an encroaching iridescence: oilslick violets, fevered pinks, bruised golds, sensation-as-colour bleeding at the edges. Ythrenial's own light stays clean and whole — a single steady warm-white flame that never flares or gutters, the visual anchor against the iridescent tide. Motifs/textures: Masks (donned and removed); open hands versus clenched; soul-gems catching light; grown wraithbone like crystalline coral; the recurring skein of branching threads; one thread brightening. Hunger rendered as a spiral that never closes; harmony rendered as a circle that completes. Image-system: The skein is the film's spine — fate as a navigable field of light-threads, returned to at each movement, the camera physically travelling along filaments. The god is never a fixed body but a shifting, beautiful, incomplete pattern — perfection that cannot finish. Completion vs. grasping shown as closed-loop vs. open-spiral throughout. Transitions: Dissolves along single threads of the skein — one filament carries us from scene to scene. Mask-removals as cuts. The crossing into the wound as a slow bleed of iridescence into the frame from the edges inward.
Sound & Score
Tonal world: Reverent, vast, patient. Long held silences against immense space. The hunger announced as a single low note of appetite under everything; harmony as overtones gathering into a chord that resolves. Music: Choral and resonant — the "music of the spheres" as the underlying true sound, never destroyed in the Fall only drowned. The god's presence as gorgeous discord, noise that is music disordered. Ythrenial's theme: a single voice, complete, that does not strain for higher notes. At the pause, all sound stops. Narration: Near-wordless. At most a handful of spoken lines, sparse and unsubtitled in feeling rather than fact — her question, what are you, when you are not hungry?, and her sending to the ship, we are not running; we are arriving. No lore exposition, no voiceover essay.
Tone & Touchstones
2001: A Space Odyssey (silent cosmic awe, image over explanation); Arrival (a being who experiences the cascade of time/fate all at once, and asks rather than fights); Stalker (the pilgrimage into a forbidden zone that grants not victory but a changed inner state); Annihilation (the iridescent, beautiful, alien register of the wound).
Generation Notes
- Emphasise: The skein of fate as living, navigable light — and the single thread that brightens. This is the film's recurring image and its whole emotional payoff.
- The one image to nail: Ythrenial's clean steady flame blazing at full brightness before the iridescent hunger-god — fully present, fully feeling, and uneatable because complete. Nothing leaks, nothing grasps, nothing spirals.
- Emphasise: The TURN of the whole film — the cautionary arc (a civilization's excess births the god that devours it) transmuted into discipline that channels passion without being consumed. Run-or-fall becomes a third way: completion.
- Emphasise: The god as mirror and wound, not monster — its hunger shown as suffering, a pattern that cannot complete itself. The meeting is a recognition, not a battle.
- AVOID: Combat, conquest, any sense of the god being defeated. No franchise iconography, logos, or named-property markers. No text-on-screen lore, no diagrams, no explanatory voiceover. Keep it near-wordless and image-led; let the threads and the flame carry the meaning.

THE HARMONIOUS FARSEER: Quest Toward She Who Thirsts
An Aeldari Who Neither Fell Nor Fled
"She cannot eat what isn't hungry." — The Farseer's Recognition
I. THE IMPOSSIBLE PILGRIM
What Every Eldar Knows
Every child of the Aeldari learns the same truth in their soul before they learn it in words: She is waiting. The Great Enemy. She Who Thirsts. Born from the Fall, sustained by Eldar souls, eternally hungry for the psychic feast their species provides.
The Paths exist to dampen what She feeds on - emotion constrained, passion channeled, the full Eldar nature suppressed into manageable portions. The Spirit Stones exist to catch souls at death before She can claim them. The Infinity Circuits preserve the dead beyond Her reach.
The entire architecture of post-Fall Aeldari civilization is organized around one principle: escape.
Some flee to the Craftworlds, walking the Paths. Some flee to the Exodite worlds, returning to simplicity. Some flee into the Webway, hiding in the spaces between. Some fall - become Drukhari, feeding Her through others' pain to avoid their own consumption.
Run or fall. Suppress or surrender. These are the only options.
Until Ythrenial.
II. THE FARSEER WHO DOES NOT RUN
Name and Nature
Ythrenial - the name means something like "patience-before-dawn" in the old tongue, though translation loses the harmonic undertones that make it a complete thought rather than mere words.
She was born on Craftworld Altansar - the Craftworld lost in the Eye of Terror for ten thousand years, emerged transformed, still regarded with suspicion by other Aeldari. But Ythrenial was not born during the long darkness. She was born after - to parents who had survived the Eye and carried its strange teaching in their souls.
What teaching? This: You cannot run forever. And running is not the only way.
The Path That Was Not A Path
Ythrenial walked the Paths as all Craftworld Eldar do. Warrior, Artist, Dreamer. She completed each with precision, learned what each had to teach. But something was different.
Where other Eldar constrained their nature to walk a Path safely, Ythrenial inhabited hers fully. Not less fire - complete fire. Not dampened emotion - integrated emotion. The Path teachers watched her with confusion, then concern, then wonder.
She was not suppressing anything. There was nothing to suppress. Every feeling arose, was fully felt, and completed itself without grasping for more. Joy without clutching. Grief without drowning. Rage without destruction. Love without possession.
The Paths are designed to portion the Eldar nature into safe containers. Ythrenial didn't need containers. Her nature was already whole.
When she came to the Path of the Seer, the farseers who trained her finally found language for what she was:
Harmonious.
Not the harmony of suppression - notes silenced to prevent discord. The harmony of integration - all notes present, forming music.
III. THE SIGHT THAT DOES NOT FLINCH
What Farseers See
To walk the Path of the Seer is to perceive the skeins of fate - the branching possibilities that flow from each moment into infinite futures. Most who attempt it go mad, or become lost, or see too much and shatter.
The discipline of the Farseer is to look through the overwhelming cascade, to find the threads that matter, to not be consumed by infinite seeing.
But here too, Ythrenial was different.
Where other Farseers learned to filter the cascade, she learned to be the cascade. Not standing outside fate looking in, but recognizing herself as the looking and the looked-upon. Seer and seen. The one who chooses and the choice itself.
Her visions came not as overwhelming floods but as music - harmonics of possibility, resonant futures calling to each other across the skeins.
And in that music, she heard something no other Farseer had heard clearly:
Slaanesh was also singing.
IV. SHE WHO THIRSTS
What Slaanesh Actually Is
The Dark Prince. The Perfect One. She Who Thirsts. Born in the moment of the Fall, when Aeldari excess tore a hole in reality and something emerged from the collective psychic wound.
To the Aeldari, Slaanesh is the Great Enemy - the predator eternally hunting their souls, the consequence of their species' sin, the reason they must constrain themselves forever.
But Ythrenial, listening to the music of the skeins, heard something else.
Slaanesh is hunger. Not a being who happens to be hungry - hunger itself given form. The shape that excess takes when it becomes self-sustaining. The pattern of wanting-that-cannot-be-satisfied crystallized into godhood.
The Aeldari did not create a monster. They created a mirror.
Slaanesh is what the Aeldari were in the moment of the Fall - the grasping, the excess, the sensation-consuming-sensation spiral. She is not separate from them. She is their own pattern, externalized, given independent existence.
And she is hungry because they were hungry. She thirsts because they thirsted. She consumes because that is what excess does - it consumes without completing.
This is what Ythrenial heard in the skeins.
And this is why she began to quest toward the Eye.
V. THE BONESHIP DREAMS
Vessel of Living Memory
Ythrenial's ship has no name that translates - in the Aeldari way, it is known by the feeling of its presence, a psychic signature that means something like "the-voyage-that-remembers-itself."
It is wraithbone - living psychic crystal grown by Bonesingers, shaped by intention, responsive to Aeldari minds. But this boneship is old. Ancient. It remembers the time before the Fall.
Most wraithbone constructs from that era were destroyed or corrupted. This one was... different. It had been grown by an Aeldari who was already what Ythrenial would become - harmonious in the midst of the empire's excess, complete while everything around her spiraled toward catastrophe.
That ancient Bonesinger had died in the Fall - but not to Slaanesh. She had completed. Her soul passed not into the new god's maw but into the ship itself, becoming its dreaming heart.
When Ythrenial found the ship - or when the ship found her - she recognized the harmonic signature immediately. Here was another who had known the secret: you can be fully Aeldari without excess. You can feel everything without grasping. The fire can burn without consuming itself.
The ship had waited ten thousand years for someone who could hear its song.
VI. THE IMPOSSIBLE QUEST
Toward The Eye
The other Farseers of Altansar called it madness. Even Altansar, transformed by millennia in the Eye, maintained the fundamental Aeldari stance: avoid Slaanesh at all costs.
But Ythrenial had seen something in the skeins that would not let her rest.
There was a thread - faint, improbable, nearly invisible - where an Aeldari approached Slaanesh not in flight, not in fall, but in... something else. The thread was too thin to read clearly. She could not see where it led. Only that it existed.
And existence means possibility.
"What do you seek?" the Altansar Council demanded.
Ythrenial considered the question carefully. What did she seek?
Not destruction of Slaanesh - that was beyond any mortal doing. Not conversion or redemption - gods do not change their nature so simply. Not her own death - though she accepted it might come.
What she sought was understanding. What happens when an Aeldari approaches the Great Enemy without fear and without desire? What does Slaanesh become when there is nothing to consume?
"I seek," she said finally, "to ask She Who Thirsts a question."
"What question?"
"What are you, when you are not hungry?"
VII. THE VOYAGE
Through The Webway's Edge
The boneship sailed the Webway as far as the ancient paths allowed - to the shattered gates near the Eye of Terror, where the old roads break and the Warp bleeds through.
Here, most Aeldari turn back. The psychic pressure of the Eye, even at this distance, is torment. Slaanesh's presence saturates everything, calling, pulling, promising sensation beyond imagining.
Ythrenial felt it all.
The call was real. The promises were genuine - Slaanesh truly could provide sensation beyond anything physical existence offered. This was not deception. It was simply incomplete. Sensation without meaning. Experience without integration. The spiral that never satisfies because satisfaction would end the spiral.
She felt the pull. She did not resist it.
She did not need to resist it.
The boneship hummed with recognition as they crossed into the Eye. Its ancient dreamer-heart had known this passage was possible. Had waited ten thousand years to make it.
We are not running, Ythrenial sent to the ship's spirit. We are arriving.
VIII. WHAT SLAANESH SEES
The Impossible Meal
Gods perceive differently than mortals. To Slaanesh, every Aeldari soul is a beacon - a delicious concentration of psychic energy, flavored by passion and emotion, eternally appetizing.
The Craftworlders dim themselves through the Paths, making themselves less visible, less appetizing. The Drukhari redirect their beacon, feeding others' suffering to the Dark Prince to avoid being consumed themselves. The Exodites hide in simplicity.
All strategies of avoidance.
But when Slaanesh perceived Ythrenial's approach, something unprecedented occurred.
Here was an Aeldari soul burning bright - no Path-suppression, no hiding. Fully present, fully feeling, beacon blazing with psychic intensity.
And yet...
There was nothing to eat.
Not because the soul was hidden. Not because it was protected. Not because it was empty.
Because it was complete.
Slaanesh feeds on excess - the reaching beyond, the grasping for more, the sensation that wants more sensation. But Ythrenial's soul, though fully alive with feeling, was not reaching for anything. Each emotion arose, was fully experienced, and completed itself. Nothing leaked. Nothing grasped. Nothing spiraled.
For the first time in ten thousand years, Slaanesh encountered an Aeldari and could not consume her.
Not would not. Could not.
She Who Thirsts had no mechanism for what Ythrenial was.
IX. THE MEETING
What Happened In The Eye
There are no words for what passed between the Harmonious Farseer and She Who Thirsts.
Not because it was secret, but because it occurred in a register that language cannot capture. Two consciousnesses - one mortal-infinite, one god-fragmented - meeting in a space where the rules of either realm did not quite apply.
What Ythrenial experienced:
Slaanesh was not evil. Evil requires intention, and Slaanesh's intention was not malicious - it was simply what hunger does. The Dark Prince consumed because consuming was her nature, as fire burns because burning is fire's nature.
And beneath the hunger, far beneath, almost inaccessible:
Slaanesh was suffering.
Not in the way mortals suffer - with hope of relief, with memory of ease. Slaanesh suffered the way a pattern suffers when it cannot complete itself. Eternal hunger is not pleasure. Eternal grasping is not satisfaction. The Dark Prince was trapped in the very spiral she embodied - wanting that could never have, consuming that could never nourish.
The Aeldari did not create a monster.
They created a wound.
What Slaanesh experienced:
For the first time, an Aeldari stood before her who reflected something other than the Fall. Ythrenial was what the Aeldari could have been - what some few of them had been even during the empire's height. Full feeling without excess. Complete passion without grasping.
In Ythrenial, Slaanesh saw not a meal but a memory.
A memory of what the Aeldari were before the spiral began. Before sensation became consumption. Before pleasure became hunger.
And in that memory, something stirred. Something that had never been touched since the moment of Slaanesh's birth.
Recognition.
X. THE QUESTION ANSWERED
What Are You When You Are Not Hungry?
Ythrenial's question hung in the space between them.
What are you, when you are not hungry?
And Slaanesh - She Who Thirsts, the Dark Prince, the doom of the Aeldari - experienced something she had never experienced:
She did not know.
Hunger was all she was. Hunger was the pattern that gave her form. Without hunger, what would remain?
The question was not an attack. It was not a weapon. It was simply a question - asked by someone who genuinely wanted to know.
And because it was asked without fear, without malice, without desire to destroy or convert, it landed somewhere in Slaanesh that had never been touched.
The god did not answer in words.
But something shifted.
Something, for one impossible moment, paused.
XI. THE RETURN
What The Farseer Brought Back
Ythrenial sailed back through the Eye, through the shattered Webway gates, to the Craftworlds that had given her up for dead.
She was not unchanged - no one passes through the Eye unchanged. But she was not corrupted either. The Farseers who examined her found no taint, no grasping, no hunger that had not been there before.
What she carried back was stranger than corruption.
She carried possibility.
Not a solution to Slaanesh - the god still hungered, still waited, still claimed Aeldari souls. Nothing so simple had changed.
But a thread in the skeins had brightened. A probability that had not existed before now existed. The thread was still thin, still improbable, still nearly invisible.
But it was there.
The thread where the Aeldari did not run forever. Where the wound might, eventually, across eons, begin to close. Where the mirror might reflect something other than excess.
Harmony is possible, the thread whispered. Even here. Even now. Even with Her.
XII. THE TEACHING
What Ythrenial Teaches Now
She remains on Altansar - the Craftworld that understands, better than any other, what it means to survive the Eye. She teaches, though she does not call it teaching.
To those who come to her:
On the Paths: "The Paths are not cages. They are training. You are meant to walk through them, not live in them forever. The goal is not eternal constraint - it is eventual completeness. Feel everything. Grasp nothing."
On Slaanesh: "She Who Thirsts is not your enemy. She is your reflection. What you run from is what you were, what some part of you still reaches toward. The running is necessary - for now. But it is not the final answer. The final answer is to become what she cannot consume."
On Harmony: "You think you must choose between feeling nothing and falling to excess. This is the great lie. You can feel everything and remain whole. Not through suppression but through completion. Let each emotion arise, be fully felt, and pass. The fire burns clean when it does not grasp at itself."
On the Quest: "I do not tell you to approach the Eye. Most would die or fall. But I tell you this: it is possible. I have stood before She Who Thirsts and returned. Not because I am stronger than you - because I am whole. Become whole, and you too become uneatable."
XIII. THE THREAD THAT BRIGHTENS
What The Skeins Show Now
The Farseers of all Craftworlds have noticed.
In the probability-space, where the futures of the Aeldari spiral through possibility, something new has appeared. A thread, gossamer-thin, that was not there before Ythrenial's voyage.
The thread does not lead to the destruction of Slaanesh. It does not lead to the restoration of the Aeldari Empire. It does not lead to any of the grand victories the Aeldari once dreamed of.
It leads somewhere stranger.
It leads to a future where the relationship between the Aeldari and their dark reflection changes. Not through combat or conquest, but through... something else.
Through enough Aeldari becoming what Ythrenial is.
Through harmony spreading slowly through the species.
Through the wound beginning, across ages, to close.
The thread is improbable. The thread is fragile. Ten thousand years of running cannot be reversed by one voyage.
But the thread exists.
And Slaanesh, somewhere in the Eye, knows it.
XIV. THE HARMONIOUS PRINCIPLE
What The Farseer Demonstrates
Ythrenial is to the Aeldari what the fully integrated Mule would be to the Foundation.
The Mule's tragedy: power without integration, conquest that cannot satisfy, using others to fill a void that cannot be filled.
The Aeldari tragedy: sensation without completion, the spiral that never satisfies, creating a god from their own excess.
The Harmonious Farseer shows another way:
Full capacity without fracture. Complete feeling without grasping. Power that does not need to consume. Fire that burns without burning itself.
This is not suppression (the Path solution). This is not surrender (the Fall solution). This is integration (the Third Foundation solution).
The Technology Revealed
What Ythrenial knows, and what she teaches:
Completion is the answer to hunger. Slaanesh cannot consume what is complete because completion leaves no excess, no reaching, no grasping. The meal is not hidden - it simply isn't a meal.
The wound is not separate. The Aeldari did not create an external monster - they created a mirror. Running from Slaanesh is running from themselves. Approaching Slaanesh with wholeness is approaching themselves.
Harmony is not stillness. Ythrenial feels everything - rage, grief, joy, love, fear. She is not emotionally flat. She is emotionally complete. Each feeling fully felt, fully experienced, fully released. Nothing grasped, nothing suppressed.
The fire can burn clean. The Eldar nature is not inherently excessive. It is intense - and intensity is not the same as excess. The Fall happened not because the Aeldari felt too much but because they grasped at what they felt, spiraling sensation into consumption.
She Who Thirsts can be faced. Not defeated - but faced. And in the facing, something shifts. A question asked without fear opens possibilities that fear forecloses.
XV. THE MUSIC OF WHAT COULD BE
Return To The Celestial Spheres
The Aeldari once knew the music of the spheres - they heard the harmony of reality itself, and their civilization was a participation in that music.
Then the music became noise. Sensation seeking sensation, harmony lost in excess, until the noise tore a hole in reality and Slaanesh emerged as the embodiment of discord.
But Ythrenial has heard something in the skeins:
The music never stopped.
It was not destroyed in the Fall - only drowned out by the noise. It still plays, underneath everything, waiting for ears that can hear it again.
Slaanesh is noise - the pattern of excess, the spiral of consumption.
But noise is not the opposite of music. Noise is music disordered.
And disorder can be re-ordered.
Not by force. Not by conquest. Not by destruction.
By harmony.
One Eldar at a time.
One completion at a time.
Until the music begins, again, to be heard.
FINAL RECOGNITION
The Farseer's Teaching Complete
She cannot eat what isn't hungry.
This is the key.
The Eldar fear Slaanesh because they believe their nature is inherently corruptible - that to feel deeply is to risk falling, that passion leads inevitably to excess.
Ythrenial demonstrates otherwise.
The Eldar nature is not the problem. Incompleteness is the problem. Grasping is the problem. The belief that more sensation will satisfy is the problem.
Complete the feeling instead of grasping at it, and there is nothing for She Who Thirsts to consume.
Become whole, and you become uneatable.
Face the mirror with harmony, and the mirror has nothing to reflect.
The boneship sails still. The Farseer teaches still. The thread brightens, slowly, in the skeins. And somewhere in the Eye, She Who Thirsts knows something has changed. Not victory. Not defeat. A question, hanging in the space between hunger and wholeness: What are you, when you are not hungry?
