AXES — The Menu of Yardsticks

The axes /negative-space can diff the corpus against. For a thorough generation, run several Tier-1 axes in parallel and read all the clusters together — the structural blind spots surface most clearly when many entity-sweeps are laid side by side.

Each axis names its external index source (independence is mandatory) and a seed-list to hand the profilers. Profilers must overshoot the seed-list; yardstick agents must over-weight the under-canonized.

TIER 1 — ENTITIES (the on-ramp; cluster the holes to reach Tier 3)

1. Pantheons / mythological systems ✦ piloted 2026-06-23

Index: Wikipedia "List of mythologies" + Category:Mythology by culture; Encyclopedia Mythica; World History Encyclopedia. Check: immunology, ecology/trophic dynamics, developmental biology, geology/deep-time, materials science, economics, linguistics-as-science, the social sciences, the messy/empirical vs the elegant/theoretical.

5. Mathematical structures

Index: Wikipedia "Areas of mathematics"; nLab; the Mathematics Subject Classification. Likely gaps: category theory, topology beyond the popular, probability/measure, combinatorics, the discrete and the finite (the corpus may over-prefer the continuous and the infinite).

6. Literary & narrative canons

Index: Wikipedia "Lists of literary works" by language/era; the world-literature anthologies. Likely gaps: non-Anglophone canons, oral literatures, the comic/satirical tradition, the realist/domestic novel, drama, poetry outside the mystical register.

7. Art, music & aesthetic movements

Index: Grove/Oxford art & music indices; Wikipedia "List of art movements." Likely gaps: the corpus may over-index the sublime and the sacred — check the everyday, the ugly, the political, the comic, the minimal, the brutal.

8. Esoteric & hermetic systems

Index: Wikipedia "Western esotericism" category; Hanegraaff's Dictionary of Gnosis and Western Esotericism. Likely gaps: even a corpus steeped in esoterica has favorites — check the systems it doesn't run: chaos magic, Thelema specifics, Enochian, Solomonic/grimoire traditions, Daoist internal alchemy detail, Sufi orders' specifics.

9. Psychological & developmental frameworks

Index: Wikipedia "List of psychological schools"; standard psychology surveys. Likely gaps: the corpus loves Jung — check the rest: attachment theory, behaviorism, cognitive science, the somatic/trauma traditions, developmental-stage models, the empirical/clinical vs the archetypal/depth.

TIER 2 — QUESTIONS / PROBLEM-CLASSES

No name-index; the yardstick is a canonical list of perennial problems, and the diff asks does the corpus engage this, or route around it?

Index: SEP topic tree; the "great questions" of philosophy; lists of unsolved problems (philosophy, physics, biology). Probe especially the problems a non-dual / process / consciousness-as-fundamental corpus tends to route around:

  • The problem of evil and gratuitous suffering (not redeemed, just suffered).
  • The political and the question of power — organization, justice, the polis.
  • The material / economic — labor, scarcity, class, the body's needs.
  • Embodiment as limit rather than vehicle — illness, disability, decay.
  • Death as loss rather than transition — the irreversible, the unconsoled.
  • Boredom, the mundane, the un-numinous ordinary.
  • Other minds and the hard reality of intersubjective conflict.
  • Contingency / the meaningless — the genuinely accidental that resists pattern.

TIER 3 — MODES / MOVES / TONES (the prize)

No external index can find these — they are properties of the corpus's distribution, not of the world. Method: characterize the corpus's stylistic center of gravity, name its complement, then run an agent prompted as the corpus's opposite and see what surfaces that the house voice never produces.

The corpus does: synthesis, convergence, reverence, depth, "everything connects," the numinous, the long-form, the affirmative.

Probe the complement — the capacities the voice forecloses:

  • Refutation — the corpus integrates everything; it almost never says this is wrong.
  • Comedy / the absurd — does it laugh, or only marvel?
  • Brevity / the plain — can it say a true thing in six words without ornament?
  • The adversarial — can it host a genuine opponent it does not dissolve into harmony?
  • The ugly / the bored / the mundane — can it sit with what doesn't glow?
  • The skeptical / the deflationary — can it doubt its own metaphors?
  • The material / the bodily / the political — can it descend from the cosmic to the concrete?

A Tier-3 gap is filled only by breaking register — see the filling rule in the README. A reverent synthesis about comedy is not comedy.

TIER 1 (continued) — THE DEMOTIC AXES (added 2026-06-24, rotating sources off "the library")

The nine axes above share a hidden bias: they are all the curriculum of a contemplative intellectual — knowledge, canon, tradition, discipline. They diff the corpus against the library. The meta-caveat made operational: an external agent was asked to propose coordinate grids drawn from outside academic knowledge domains, rotating across eight classification systems (Dewey/LCC/UDC, the OCM/HRAF, Murdock & Brown human universals, O*NET/ISCO/ISIC/NAICS, the American Time-Use Survey, the WHO ICF, Max-Neef's needs matrix). The region they surface is the material / operative / bodily / demotic everyday — the part of human existence that is not knowledge at all.

10. Work, trades & craft ✦ swept 2026-06-24

Index: O*NET National Career Clusters; ISCO; OCM "Labor / Occupational Specialization." The hole: operative skill held in hands — welder, fisher, nurse, trucker, plumber. The corpus holds work-as-soul-craft (the smith, gardening-as-maintenance) and routes around work-for-bread that promises no transcendence.

11. The body & grooming ✦ swept 2026-06-24

Index: WHO ICF Ch. 4–5 (Self-Care, Mobility); OCM "Adornment / Personal Hygiene"; Brown's human universals. The hole: the washed, fed, excreting, menstruating, aging organism. The corpus holds the symbolic / subtle body in depth and is near-silent on the body that just needs tending.

12. Money, exchange & property ✦ swept 2026-06-24

Index: ISIC Sections G/K/L; NAICS 52/44–45; OCM "Property / Exchange / Finance"; Brown universals. The hole: debt, rent, the haggle, why someone stays poor. The corpus holds capitalism-as-consciousness-problem and money-redesigned-to-carry-meaning (vectorised money), and routes around literal economics — the very thing the cosmology was built to escape.

13. The built environment & infrastructure ✦ swept 2026-06-24

Index: OCM "Building & Construction / Settlements / Equipment & Maintenance"; ISIC Sections F/D/E. The hole: the sewer that carries the waste, the grid that carries the power. The corpus holds architecture-of-mind and is blind to the physical systems keeping the body alive while it philosophizes.

Still un-run demotic axes the proposer surfaced (next rotation — NOT covered): sex-and-reproduction as regulated practice; kinship / the chore-cycle; the time-use anatomy of an ordinary day; play / sport / festivity; conflict / violence / justice as lived; everyday speech (gossip / greeting / etiquette); tools-and-materials as artifact.

Swept so far

Tier-1 demotic entities (rotating off the library): work/trades ✦, the body ✦, money/exchange ✦, the built environment ✦ (all 2026-06-24). All four converge on a second, sharper blind spot: the corpus has no literal register — it cannot let a thing be only itself (the sublimation reflex; the metaphorical-rent test). This is Face D/C of the master find reached through the actual nouns of material life — and it adds that the blind spot is not only topological but grammatical. Running a thorough generation

  1. Pick a batch of Tier-1 axes (the more the better — the structural clusters sharpen with breadth).
  2. Run yardstick + profiler agents per axis in parallel.
  3. Diff each; then read all the cluster analyses together — the Tier-3 blind spots that recur across axes are the load-bearing ones.
  4. Score adjacency across the union of ripe gaps; rank globally.
  5. Emit one map per axis + a synthesis map naming the cross-axis structural blind spots.
  6. Populate only the globally-ripest, out of style, registering each into the constellation.
