SEED — The Running Vacuum: The Cosmological Constant That Isn't Constant

THE QUESTION

The cosmological constant Λ — the energy of empty space driving cosmic expansion — is, by its name, constant. But the Running Vacuum Model (and related approaches) proposes that Λ runs with scale: that it flows under the renormalization group exactly as the coupling constants of particle physics do, so that the value of the "constant" at the present Hubble scale differs from its value at the Planck scale. The sixty-one-octaves synthesis ([[jewel-and-dark-earth]]) surfaced this and the harvest pulled out the unworked implication: if Λ runs, the most "constant" thing in cosmology is actually scale-dependent, and the constant/dynamic dichotomy dissolves. What follows when even the cosmological constant flows?

THE THREADS
